Captain America Finds His Sidekick, Bucky [Captain America]
http://io9.com/5507898/captain-america-finds-his-sidekick-bucky
Has the Red Dawn obsessed ski dick from Hot Tub Time Machine and the Prince from Kings, just got his first big movie break? Rumor has it Sebastian Stan is Bucky in the new Captain America film.Stan is one of those actors who's been in everything, but it's always hard to place his face. You may remember him as Chase Collins in The Covenant, or from his work in Gossip Girl. He was even rumored to have been in the running for the part of Captain America. Clearly someone at Marvel likes him, because even though Chris Evans got the role of Cap, Stan snagged the Bucky role, according to Deadline. Bucky is usually portrayed as the Robin to Cap's Batman — but hopefully in this film, which is striving to be a tad more realistically grounded, Bucky won't be so one-dimensional. What with Evans as Cap, Hugo Weaving as Red Skull and now Stan, this film could be almost ready to shoot.

Is Iron Man 3 Really Coming Out Before The Avengers? [Iron Man]
http://io9.com/5504169/is-iron-man-3-really-coming-out-before-the-avengers
Did a slip of the tongue reveal Paramount's plans for a third Iron Man movie, even a month before Iron Man 2 is coming out?Which movie will come first: Iron Man 3 or The Avengers? With a tentative Avengers release date set for May 4th in 2012, the idea of squeezing in another Iron Man movie isn't a completely ridiculous notion. Look how fast Iron Man 2 managed to squeak out after the first movie in 2008. In an interview with the AP, Robert Downey Jr. might have revealed that he's already getting busy on the third Iron Man film. When the AP asked Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis what their future plans were, they responded thusly:
Galifianakis said he expects to begin work this fall on the sequel to The Hangover, while Downey said he aims to suit up for a third Iron Man flick.
The way that's worded makes Iron Man 3 sound like Downey Jr.'s next project, and some sites, like CinemaBlend, are even interpreting it to mean he could be repeating the role of Tony Stark this coming fall. That would allow Marvel to finish the Iron Man trilogy before The Avengers comes out, which makes a certain amount of sense — but that would mean putting out these two films awfully close together. Let's hope the Captain America and Thor films provide enough buffer to prevent Iron Man overload... if that's even possible.

Bryan Singer Might Not Direct X-Men: First Class After All [X-Men: First Class]
http://io9.com/5499675/bryan-singer-might-not-direct-x+men-first-class-after-all
Even though Bryan Singer has talked up what he'd do with the X-Men: First Class film, he might not be the only director Fox is courting. Singer's commitment to Jack The Giant Killer might force Fox to look elsewhere.Hitfix has the scoop about Bryan Singer's scheduling troubles with the X-Men: First Class film. Their sources report that not only is the Warner Brothers production of Jack The Giant Killer getting in the way of important X-Men: First Class production time, but Fox is realizing that Singer may not be the fan favorite director for this project. Plus, Fox doesn't want to wait until 2012, when the epic fantasy story Jack The Giant Killer will be over, to make another X-Men movie. The article hints at a lot of game-playing politics going on behind Singer's comments in the LA Times article. According to Hitfix's sources, Fox had hard-balled Singer on X-Men 3, allowing Warner Brothers the chance to lure him to jump ship to Superman. So reportedly, there's a lot of bad blood between the two. But if Singer doesn't come back, does that mean we're in for another X-film by Brett Ratner or someone of his ilk?

Secrets Of Flash Gordon's Sophisticated Revamp [Exclusive]
http://io9.com/5479663/secrets-of-flash-gordons-sophisticated-revamp
Breck Eisner, director of The Crazies, is currently heavily involved bringing a new, non-campy, 3-D Flash Gordon film to life. But how do you take the cheese out of Flash Gordon, with all its winged and furry-faced co-stars? Eisner explains. We've read a lot about your upcoming work, after The Crazies. We heard you might be the director for The Brood, and that you are involved with a new take on the Flash Gordon franchise. Which movie would come first? Well, The Brood, I was just approached about it. I haven't decided. I'm not sure if its one I want to take on. I love the original, and I'm not sure if it's a movie that I think is ready for a remake. I've been soul-searching and deciding if I want to do that. Flash Gordon is a project that I've been pursuing for years. I absolutely love that movie, and that strip. It's at Sony, we have the writers on, we've done one draft. I've been brainstorming with them over the past couple months, when I finished post [for The Crazies]. They are busy writing right now, so we will have a script from that in short order, hopefully. It's a big, giant movie. And these things have a lot of different roads to go down before they get green light. Hopefully we'll get there, but it's always a long-shot, but it's one that I feel incredible passion for. In developing it, I've really gone back to the original Alex Raymond strips and pulled information from those. I read that you really want to strip Flash Gordon of its campiness, what would have to go in order to accomplish this? Yeah. Well inherently there are two key elements, I think, that removes the camp from the movie. When you re-read Raymond's strips, which were drawn from '32 to about the mid-40s you can't read them as a human being living in today's world. You have to imagine living in a world pre-space travel, and the world of the 30s. It's kind of a more naive view of the Universe. It's a mistake to try and [take] the sensibilities from then, and transplant them into today. So we, what the writers have been saying, is "What would it be like if Raymond was still alive today? If he was writing the strips now? What would he be doing? How much more sophisticated would it be?" And that's one one of our points of view. The other is, it's not just the level of sophistication in the world and in Mongo, and the design and the creatures. It's also the sophistication of character in Flash, and Dale, and Ming. What characters are more realistic and human? What characters have more flaws, and journeys to go on in the course of the movie? It's such an iconic image, the Flash Gordon figure, just the costume and his boots alone. It's hard to imagine losing the costume or other classic images from the strip. Are those the type of things you think you'll have to do away with? No, I think it's all a careful balance. I can tell you there will be Hawkman, there will be Lionman, [and] Ming will be will be in the movie. In a version that is going to take place on Mongo. I love the source material, so lots of it is going to be in it. I'm not rediscovering, I'm not recreating a take on his original material. There are elements that will be in it, and there will certainly be elements that change. And unique takes on it that might not have been in reflected on before. So were you a fan of the TV series? No. Not at all, [ughhh]. I thought the TV series was not good. I think it did a lot of damage to the brand. To do Flash Gordon right — one of the reasons you can't is because of budget. I don't typically ever equate budget [with] a level of sophistication, or success in a project. Certainly, if you have all the money in the world, it doesn't mean you're going to have a good movie. But in a big movie like Flash Gordon, that takes place on another world, if you don't have the budget to do it right or the technology to do it right, it's going to inherently come out campy, whether you want it to or not. It's the only way that you can put that through to portray another planet. My take on this is to not do it, unless we have the right budget and can do it the right way.

Do The Jonah Hex Reshoots Mean A Bigger Role For Megan Fox? [Jonah Hex]
http://io9.com/5466490/do-the-jonah-hex-reshoots-mean-a-bigger-role-for-megan-fox
It was rumored that the Jonah Hex reshoots were required to add additional characters to the film, but the latest set pics make us think that Megan Fox's hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold role has been fleshed out. The latest crop of Hex set pics show Josh Brolin and Megan Fox in their fantastic Western attire standing under a Tim Burton-meets-Tombstone umbrella. Fox has previously mentioned that her role was "basically a cameo" but her presence in these reshoot images seem to imply otherwise. We're okay with it ,as long as she doesn't get as much screen time as Jonah himself. But the more slutty period gear, the better.
Speculation aside, the reshoots appear to be finished as recent Hex actor, Michael Papajohn, twittered that he was readying for the wrap party this past Sunday. [via Spoiler TV]

Green Lantern's Oscar-Winning Ring-Bearers [Green Lantern]
http://io9.com/5435229/green-lanterns-oscar+winning-ring+bearers
While the cast of Green Lantern, besides Ryan Reynolds, is being kept under lock and key, a few startling crew announcements have raised our hopes exceptionally high for this film. These new additions could make GL your new favorite superhero. Superhero Hype has the latest news about Martin Campbell's, from Casino Royale, Green Lantern. The entire thing will be shot by cinematographer Dion Beebe, who not only shot the amazing-looking Equilibrium, but won an Academy Award for Memoirs of a Geisha. He'll be working with production designer Grant Major, who worked on The Ruins and King Kong and took home an Oscar for his work on Lord of The Rings. And costume designer Ngila Dickson, who also received an Academy Award for LOTR. And finally Art Director François Audouy who helped bring the gorgeous scenes from Watchmen to life, is joining the crew. So it seems that Warner Brothers isn't screwing around with this picture, and is investing big money for big turn out. Gone are any campy expectations we had for this film, we're now expecting something much more epic. Also, our insider sources tell us that production is readying in New Orleans, and should be expecting up to a thousand construction workers for sets and special effects at peak production. Rumors on the internet would lead us to believe that filming would then start in March, ending in either July of August 2010. [Image Via Geek Tyrant]

Green Lantern's Director Explains How They'll Make The Magical Rings Realistic [Green Lantern]
http://io9.com/5395371/green-lanterns-director-explains-how-theyll-make-the-magical-rings-realistic
How does one make the flying space cop believable? According to Green Lantern's director it's going to take over 1,300 visual effects shots just to power up that ring. While Ryan Reynolds gets into shape for his superhero role as Hal Jordan, the film's director explains to Empire Magazine just how much work it's going to take to make this world a reality. "It's daunting. Just the process, something like 1,300 visual effects shots, it's mind-blowing, quite honestly...It's energised by a battery on the planet of Oa, which taps into the willpower of everyone in the universe..."From that ring you can form constructs. So if you got into a fight, you could form a giant fist. Or a fighter plane." But that's not all that's revealed, apparently the concept art from months back is spot on, and we'll get to see the Green Lantern travel through space. "He's the only superhero to my knowledge who regularly goes to another planet. Superman and Batman were essentially locked into a particular city. The Lantern isn't so Earthbound." The Green Lantern will be released in 2011.
