This one has been stewing away for so long I had forgotten about it. Sense8 is a science fiction show created by J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) and executive produced by the Wachowski’s (The Matrix). It was set to “air” on Netflix in 2014, but it sounds like that has been pushed back to 2015 now.
So that’s quite a pedigree. As far as I’m concerned Babylon 5 is a genre defining TV show and while I like to ignore the sequels, The Matrix was a great scifi film. Admittedly Straczynski has rather tarnished himself in my eyes with his comic book work which he rather consistently fails to finish. But it’s not like he can really get away with that in the tv world. Still… this concept does sound a bit more like his comics stuff than Babylon 5. As he describes Sense8:
“The series follows eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally, They can not only see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, they have access to each other’s deepest secrets. Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them.”
And to support that globe trotting concept an international cast (Britain, America, South Korea, Germany, India and Mexico) has been announced. Some of which will be familiar names to you:
Naveen Andrews, Daryl Hannah, Brian J. Smith, Tuppence Middleton, Aml Ameen, Freema Agyeman, Tena Desae, Doona Bae, Max Riemelt, Alfonso Herrera, Erendira Ibarra,Jamie Clayton, Miguel Silvestri and Terrence Mann
The more astute amongst you will note that that is 14 actors, and there are 8 primary roles. Deadline seem to think that those 8 will be played by Smith, Middleton, Ameen, Bae, Silvestri, Desae, Riemelt and Clayton
