Stephen Colbert For President?

I wonder if this was the intention all along. To build the Super PAC and then use it not only to mock the campaign funding process but election campaigning itself.

Planned or not it is a brilliant move and I hope to see Colbert skewering the whole absurd process right up to Election night.

  1. I've been wondering all along what his plan was. I don't think he could get elected and he's coming in way too late to be a real contender but he does have something a lot of the others don't: the college and 20-something voters.

  2. +Nan Allen LOL he's just running in SC – it's a joke and it gives Jon Stewart the ability to run the ads against the GOP… OMG I can't wait!!!!!

  3. +Nan Allen His run is more satirical than anything else. His announcement last night and his transfer of his Super Pac to Jon Stewart was clearly just showing the ridiculousness of the laws involved.

  4. I saw the show. Knowing Colbert, he doesn't do anything half way.

  7. Running in SC allows him to mock the nomination process right up to the summer. But could he theoretically then declare as an independent to keep it going until the election?

It's obviously not about winning, it's the satire.

  8. If he took the campaign national he would do well better than many of the candidates that are currently running. I'm not entirely convinced it should be allowed, but it is his right as an American citizen to run regardless of the reason.

  9. If you recall he wanted to do this 4 years ago, but it got canned due to the writers strike.

  10. I don't digest well much of that humour- their sidekicks are weak and "artificial", but some of main stuff is hilarious.

WRT to that Super PAC manipulations, as someone said Colbert never does anything halfway…
